The alloy is particularly effective for very long-term applications at temperatures of 1200°F (650°C) or more, and is capable of outlasting stainless steels and nickel alloys by as much as 100 to 1 depending upon the temperature. Alternative use of 230 alloy's higher strength allows for design section thicknesses as much as 75 percent thinner than lesser alloys with no loss in load-bearing capability.

Heat Treatment of Haynes 230
Haynes 230 is a solid-solution strengthened alloy and is furnished in the solution heat treated condition, unless otherwise specified.
Standard Solution Heat Treatment:
- Temperature: 2150 to 2275°F (1177 to 1246°C)
- Cooling: Rapid cooling or water quenching for optimum properties
- Purpose: Achieve optimal balance of high-temperature strength, ductility, and oxidation resistance
Important Considerations:
- The alloy cannot be hardened by precipitation heat treatment
